Waldon Wendell "Walt" Lauer

Waldon Wendell Lauer, age 93, passed away March 5, 2020, in Bernalillo, New Mexico.  He was born July 25, 1926, in Macon, Nebraska, to Bill and Mana Lauer.  He graduated from Lincoln High School, Class of 1944 and went on to attend University of Nebraska.  He proudly served our country in the United States Army during World War II, from 1944 to 1946.  Following his discharge in 1946, Walt began a 42 year career in the rail industry.  He worked in the signal department of the former Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad, where he rose to the position of Signal Inspector.  He was a member of the Brotherhood of Railroad Signalman, and was Vice President at the time of his retirement.  He loved golfing, gardening, he was a loyal fan of the Nebraska Cornhuskers, "GO BIG RED", a friend of Bill W for 35 years, a member of Faith Evangelical Free Church in Rio Rancho, NM for 27 years and a past deacon.  He started the Helping Hands Ministry at Faith Church and enjoyed helping others.  Walt was a very loving, kind and generous person who loved spending time with his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 64 years, Roberta June Shirey; parents, Bill and Mana Lauer; brothers, Rev. John Lauer, Richard Lauer, Harvey Lauer; and sister, Mary Ann Buckingham.

Walt is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Beverly J.  and Jeffrey Barton; grandson, David Barton; sisters-in-laws, Cis Lauer of Grapevine, Texas, Sharon Lauer of Lerna Illinois, and Mary Lauer of Ann Arbor, Michigan; many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Faith Church and/or Rivers of Mercy Children's Home.  Please make checks payable to Faith Church and designate if the donation is to go to Faith Church or Rivers of Mercy.  

A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday October 16, 2021 at 11:00 am at Faith Evangelical Free Church - 900 Southern Blvd SE Rio Rancho, NM 87124.
