At 11:48 in the morning on March 21, 2016, Wallace Gene Richardson passed away peacefully at his home in Albuquerque, New Mexico surrounded by his loving wife and family. Gene was 87 years old.
Gene Richardson was born in the town of Hamlin in Jones County, Texas on March 18, 1929. He was the first child and the first son of Alvis and Geraldine Richardson. A Hamlin High School graduate, Gene married his high school sweetheart, Frankie, and later relocated to Albuquerque.
Gene was married to Frankie Lou Richardson on June 18, 1948; they were married for 67 years.
Gene began his career in the grocery business as a young store manager of a Furr’s grocery store near his hometown. He then went on to become the District Manager for Piggly Wiggly in the South West United States.
In 1979 Gene opened up Hi-Lo Market with a business partner, Delbert. In 1986 Gene opened Metro Market and remained in the grocery business until he decided to retire and enjoy family time.
Gene is survived by his wife, Frankie Lou Richardson; his brother, Walton Stahl; his sister, Phyllis McCoy; his daughters, Gena Gross (Roger), Jana Brown, and Jill Amador (Carl); his grandchildren, Jason Gross and Kimberley Silva, Shaun and Aaron Smith, Christopher, Kevin, Tiffany, and Ashley Perkins; many great grandchildren; loving friends; caregivers, Nettie and Patricia; his hospice team, Sharon, Gene and Therese.
Gene Richardson had a passion for gardening and was a member of the Shriners and was a Freemason. He enjoyed drinking coffee and eating Nancy’s famous tamales in the winter time. “Daddad”, as he was known, had mastered the art of making Posole which he made for the family ever year. Gene was a kind, meticulous, loving, humble and very generous man who cared very much about his family.
The graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at the Fairview Memorial Park, 700 Yale Blvd., in Albuquerque.
