Walter M. Sanchez

Walter M Sanchez (Walt) went to his eternal resting place with our lord at his home surrounded by his family and loving wife of 71 years Cecilia on December 10th, 2020 at the age of 92. Walt was born on February 7th, 1928 in Austin, Texas to Ramon and Margareta Sanchez. From an early age Walt was a go getter, up at 6 every morning shining shoes, selling papers and working with local tailors developing his future trade.  At the age of 18 Walt went to Airforce basic training in San Antonio, Texas and eventually ended up stationed here in Albuquerque where he met the love of his life Cecilia. For the next 71 years Walt always made sure that Cecilia was his number one priority in every aspect of their lives, Cecilia always trusted every decision Walt made. Like leaving his Job that he loved at Galles Grosbeck Chevrolet to start his own Business Walt’s Top shop and Seat Covers in 1963. Where he developed and ran his successful business until his “retirement” at the age of 82, Walt never really did retire. Today Walt’s Top Shop is still a family run business.  
Walt was an usher at Holy Ghost church and was involved in many committees over the years as a parishioner.  Walt enjoyed spending time at the horse races with many friends, hunting and fishing at his cabin with family, and traveling the world with his wife Cecilia. 
Walt is survived by wife Cecilia Sanchez, 5 children Wally, Ray (Charlene), Robert (Tina), Edward (Annie), and Caroline Day (Rick), 14 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren. 3 brothers Armando (Sofie), Herby (Vicki), Jerry, and 2 sisters Stella Guerrero (Clarence) and Margaret Medina (Jesse).
Whatever good fortune Walt has had in business he still points to his wife and family as his biggest success. 
“We can’t complain,” he said “we’ve had a good life. We haven’t set the world on fire, but we did all we could to make ourselves happy.”- Walt
There will be three opportunities to pay your respect to Walt and his family…
Viewing to be held at Holy Ghost Church 833 Arizona St. SE, Albuquerque, NM 87108 on Friday December 18th at 6:00pm and rosary to follow at 7:00pm.
Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Ghost Church on Saturday December 19th at 10:00am
