Wayne Morgan Holmes

Wayne Morgan Holmes, 74, of Farmington, passed away of natural causes Monday, March 1, 2010 in Farmington. Wayne was born June 18, 1935, in Pollock, S.D., to Ramona and Devillo Holmes.
At the age of 17, Wayne enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He entered as Private First Class and was honorably discharged as a colonel in 1955.
During his service, Wayne received the United Nations Medal, and the National Defense Medal, and the Good Contact Medal. After his military service, Wayne embarked on a career of finance and banking. He became a vice-president and received several banking awards. After his retirement, he spent time in Farmington.
Wayne enjoyed trout fishing and taking walks with his dogs. He was also a 34 year member and Past Exalted Ruler of the Farmington Elks Lodge No. 1747, a life time member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a 52 year member of the American Legion in Aztec.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Devillo Jr. James and Dwayne; and one sister, Patricia. Survivors include Wayne's four children, Terri Billings and her husband, Andrew of Garden Grove, CA. Patricia Schlegel and her husband, Mark, of Valley Springs, CA., Kenneth Holmes and Kristi Oliphant, both of Brookings, OR.; brother, Gary M. Holmes and wife, Rose, of Longmont, CO.; step-sister, Judy Harwood of Fountain Valley, CA.; 13 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
A celebration of Wayne's life, with military honors in recognition of his service, is pending.
