Begay died Feb. 7, 2011, in Flagstaff. He was born Feb. 25, 1949, in Wheatfields, into the Under His Cover People Clan for the Red Bottom People Clan. Begay received his associates degree in automotive technology. He served as Council Delegate, President, Vice-President for Tsaile, Wheatfields and Lukachukai Chapter House. He was a life long rancher and farmer and did auto mechanic. Survivors include his wife, Lena R. Begay; sons, Leon James of Blue Gap, Corwin Begay of Valley Store, Adrian Begay of Gallup; daughters, Adriann Begay of Gallup, Pamela Begay of Chinle, Leslie Yazzie of Wheatfields, Christine Bitsilly of Wheatfields, Liyah Begay of Chinle, Delphina Begay of Tsaile; brothers, Paul Begay, William Begay, Walter Begay Jr.; sisters, Francis Legah, Helen Begay, Helena Begay; 46 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren. Begay was preceded in death by his parents, Walter H. Begay, Helen M. Begay; son, Aldwin Begay; daughter, Lenora James; brother, Jimmy Begay. Pallbearers will be Ty Yazzie, Tommy Yazzie, Tyrell Yazzie, Tony Yazzie, Nathaniel Bitsilly, Treven Tallbull. Arrangements are entrusted to Tso Bonito Mortuary.
