William Scott Anderson

December 12, 1957 — August 23, 2024

Albuquerque

William Scott Anderson, 66, went home to be with the Lord on August 23, 2024.

Beloved son of Elliott W. Anderson and Barbara J. Anderson (Bucklin), William (Bill) was born December 12, 1957 in Chicago, IL. His early years involved hours taking apart radios just to see how they worked, projects with his Dad, playing football, leading worship with his youth group, and growing increasingly hungry for God’s word.

He graduated from Hope College in 1980, where he met the love of his life, Debbie, and began a career in broadcast television. Over many years and moves across the country, he worked his way up from a floor director, finally landing with his wife and three kids in Albuquerque in 1999, where he served as the Vice President and General Manager of KRQE for 25 years. During his career he received 5 Emmys and many awards for his excellence in broadcasting, but he was never interested in that kind of attention. His acceptance speeches were always self-effacing and honoring of the people whom he led. He led with a quiet strength and humility, yet with boldness and vision that made people want to work with and for him.

A faithful member of Desert Springs Church, Bill served for many years as an elder and on the worship team. He had a heart to mentor young men who often sought him out for his wisdom and counsel in business, life, and faith. At the end of the day, Bill prioritized and cherished his time with Debbie and his family at home and at their family ranch. Family dinners and movie nights, “putzing” in the garage, guitar jam sessions, working on classic cars, going to grandkids’ games and performances, and designing, engineering, and puzzling out projects were what made his heart most full. He was a spiritual father to many; a brother, a loyal friend, a faithful and loving husband, father, and “Papa” to his grandkids. He put his family before work, and his faith before everything.

As Bill battled cancer over this past year, there were many victories and moments of celebration amid the heartache and physical trials. He made the most of every moment with his family and loved ones and spoke openly about how it impacted his faith. “I’m not praying ‘God save me,’” he would say. “I’m praying, ‘I’m already saved!’ And I have more desire for God’s Word and to be in church than ever before.” He lived out those desires up until the very days before his Lord and Savior carried him Home.

Bill is survived by his wife of 44 years, Deborah S. Anderson (Grimm); their children: Caitelen Schneeberger (Anderson) and her husband Greg, Steven and his wife Kristen, and Michael and his wife Nicole; five grandchildren: Lilian Anderson, Levi Anderson, Eli Anderson, Aria Schneeberger, and Violet Schneeberger; sisters: Judith Malone, Janet Toomes, Joan Lagmark as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
