William Jeffrey Finley

September 2, 1963 — October 13, 2024

Bernalillo

William Jeffery Finley, who was also known as Bill or Papa, was born on September 2, 1963, in Rural (Walker AFB) New Mexico. He was born to Robert Finley and Carol Jones. Bill and his two brothers were raised in New Mexico by his mother and stepfather Geroge.

In 1981 Bill enlisted in the Marine Corps, he served two terms, receiving a code of conduct metal, a letter of appreciation, a letter of commendation and the rifle and pistol expert badge. He loved this country, and he served her well. He was honorably discharged in 1990, but he lived by the Marine Corps three core values: honor, courage, and commitment up until his very last breath.

In 1992, Bill obtained his Associate Degree in Applied Science with the highest honors award from Albuquerque Technical-Vocational Institute. He also received a certificate in Photonics Technology, Electrical Trade and Electronics Technology. He went on to build a successful career as a skilled electrician.

On March 17, 2008, Bill married his wife, Barbara Salazar. For the last 16 years they lived together in Bernalillo. He was a devoted husband who served and loved his wife with his whole being. There was never anything he wouldn't do for Barb. He was her “magic” making man.

Bill was a loving and caring dad. He had two boys from his first marriage, and three children from his second marriage. He truly loved all of them unconditionally. There was nothing he wouldn't do for his kids. From fixing anything that was broken at their home, to lending a shoulder to cry on or ear to listen.

Bill was also a “Papa.” He had six grandsons and two granddaughters. They were his heart and for them he would move mountains. Whatever they needed, no matter what it was, they could count on him and that things would always work out. He would always remind them that “every day is a holiday.”

Bill was an incredible man. He took pride in everything that he did, never cutting corners, and always putting in 110%. He was someone that his family, friends, and his employees could count on. He was a man that always led by example. He was a man who had positive moral qualities, was honest and fair and had a strong sense of responsibility.

Bill was usually serious but underneath that strong military man was a big heart. He was so loved and respected by so many people. He was kind, caring and was always willing to help. He was a man who loved to serve others. He was a man that was truly after the heart of God, and he was working so hard to be more like Jesus. He enjoyed attending church with his family and praying over those that he loved.

Bill will be missed and remembered by all who knew him. His family hopes he is riding alongside his son Josh as they wait for the rest of us to join them.

Papa, I have said these words too many times in one lifetime, and I hate having to say it again so soon. On the day you left us, a piece of our heart went too. But we bask in each new dawn, because now we live for not only us, but now we live for you.

On October 13, 2024, at the age of 61, Bill breathed his last breath on earth and took his first breath in heaven. May the one who bore it all for us, hold you in his arms today! This is not goodbye; it is until we meet again.

Bill was predeceased by his father, his mother, his brother David Finley, his son Joshua Smith and his son-in-law David Lovel. He is survived by his wife Barbara Finley, his brother Jim Finely, his daughters Yolanda Smith and Roxxane Smith, his son Jeffery Finley, his daughter-in-law Michaela Finley, his son Issac Booth and daughter-in-law Lesley Booth, and his grandchildren, Alana Mora, Antonio Mora, Jada Mora, Kaila Gutierrez, Jessie Smith, Dominic Smith, Ethan Smith, Calyton Smith and Braxton Lovel.
