William R. Hemrich Jr. (age 93) loving husband and father passed away peacefully February 26 in Rio Rancho.
William was born December 27, 1924 in Evanston, Illinois. He married his high school sweetheart, Marjorie Mellors, January 3, 1945, in La Grange, Illinois. They were married for 73 years. Marjorie preceded William in death by nine days.
William served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific during World War II. After the war he received a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Bradley University. William and Marjorie lived in the Chicago area until his retirement when they moved to Rio Rancho, New Mexico.
In Rio Rancho ,William was an active member of the American Legion Post 118, where he served in many capacities including Commander, Chaplin, Adjutant, and Trustee. When he first visited Post 118 in 1990, William was looking for golfing buddies; what he found were life-long friends who he trusted and loved.
William is survived by daughter Susan Hemrich of Aloha, Oregon; daughter Patricia Hemrich and son-in-law Peter Hoogenboom of Bellingham, Washington; and sister Jean Fraher of Chicago. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie, and his brothers Charles and Thomas.
A memorial service for both William and Marjorie will be held at Daniels Family Funeral Services, 4310 Sara Road SE, Rio Rancho 87124 on at a later date.
