Myer, William R. william Myer, 65, died on Easter Sunday, April 8, 2012, surrounded by his family. He was born in Tuscarawas County, Ohio Sept. 22, 1946 to Donald and Pauline Myer. Bill is survived by his wife of thirty three years, Amelia (Mellie) Delaney Myer and two daughters, Caroline (Callie) Brehm and husband Andy of Golden CO; Emily Myer and husband Jordy Hicks of Albuquerque, NM; brother, David Myer and wife Katy of Hilton Head, SC; sister-in-law Kate Delaney and husband Bill Anderson; brother-in-law Michael Delaney and wife Kathy; nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, and much-loved cousins. His niece Ann Myer Ericson of Santa Fe and her family brought special joy to his life in his last few years. Bill spent his entire life in service to others. He was one of the first VISTA volunteers in the mid 1960s, serving on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota and in rural Missouri. He established craft cooperatives and was proudest of his work with the Oglala Sioux in a successful project to reestablish tribal elk and buffalo herds. A fondest memory was when he gave a grade school commencement address in Lakota. He had a thirty five year career with the federal government, most of it in management with the US Fish and Wildlife Service in Washington DC and in Albuquerque, NM, with the Peace Corps and VISTA. He served as Associate Peace Corps Director in Ghana and most recently was Peace Corps Director in Turkmenistan. In recent years, he was chair of the Albuquerque/Ashgabat Committee for Albuquerque Sister Cities and wrote grants that brought Central Asian delegations to Albuquerque. He was a CASA volunteer (Court Appointed Special Advocate), advocating for abused and neglected children. He was a Master Mason. He had a BS in conservation biology from Kent State University and a Masters in Public Administration from the University of Missouri. His girls, Callie and Emily, were his greatest joy. He coached their softball teams, attended every band concert and school event, and passed on his many hobbies and interests, rock and fossil hunting, fly fishing, camping and international travel.
