William Swift, lovingly known as Bill by family and friends, passed away due to a long battle with illness on August 25, 2020. He is survived by his wife Carmen and children Mark, Deborah, Matthew and wife Carolyn, Karen and husband Mark Formanek, as well as his grandchildren Zachary and wife Madison, Michaela, Kyle, and Kai. One of Bill’s greatest joys was his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is survived by his great-grandchildren Nova, daughter of Jordan and Kyle Swift and his twin great-granddaughters to be born this October, Deming and Ryan, daughters of Zach and Madison Swift.
Bill and his sister, Barbara, were born in Eureka Illinois to parents William Sr. and Ruth Stout Swift.
As a child, Bill loved the outdoors and as an adult his fondest memories and deepest solace were found in nature. As a long-time member of Ducks Unlimited, he loved to hunt and was an avid fisherman. Bill was a Boy Scout leader and loved to foster and shape the minds of young people. He was a part of search and rescue in his community and a member of the Kiwanis club. He was a great leader, father, grandfather, husband, and to many - a dear friend and confidant.
Bill is remembered through his quick wit and smart mind. Bill attended Bradley University at age 16 and later attended UNM. As an electrical engineer Bill worked in Santa Fe, Las Vegas, and Albuquerque New Mexico. After retirement from a long career at PNM, Bill worked for Molzen-Corbin Engineering for over 20 years.
His family remembers him fondly when they see ducks swim by or fly against the New Mexico sky. The symbolism of a duck illuminates community and persistence. Bill’s bravery throughout his life and his unwavering love for his family are what made his heart so beautiful.
Bill will be dearly missed but never forgotten.
