Willie Jacob Chavez

CHAVEZ - Guillermo “Willie” Jacob Chavez, 79, a longtime resident of Magdalena, NM, passed away on Tuesday, March 8, 2011. Mr. Chavez was born on June 3, 1931 in Santa Rita, NM to Francisco and Rosa (Gonzalez) Chavez. At the age of 17 he joined the US Army. After his honorable discharge from the Army he worked as a miner. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Anita Chavez, in 2005; his precious daughter, Berlinda Chavez in 1977; sister, Isabelita Gomez; and his brothers, Luis Chavez, Macedonio Chavez, Benito Chavez, Seferino Chavez; Alberto Chavez, and Cardenio Chavez. He is survived by his daughter, Mary Ellen Chavez and her husband, Lalo Quiroz, of Albuquerque, NM; grandchildren, Michael Parker; Matthew “Bebo” Parker; and Mandel Parker; great-grandchildren, Angelia Avalos; Matthew Parker, Jr.; Isaac Parker; and Berlinda Parker; brother, Pat Chavez and his wife, Esther, of Magdalena, NM; many nieces and nephews; and his loyal dog, Stewie. A Visitation will be held on Friday, March 18, 2011 from 6:00 pm " 7:00 pm at St. Mary Magdalene Church in Magdalena followed by a Rosary which will be recited at 7:00 pm. A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated on Saturday, March 19, 2011 at 11:00 am also at St. Mary Magdalene Church with Father Andrew Pavlak as Celebrant. Interment will be held in the Magdalena Cemetery. Pallbearers are Johnny Tafoya, Roger Chavez, Anthony Chavez, Richard Chavez, Cardenio Chavez, and Felipe Avalos.
