Willie Griego

Willie Griego, 76, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 15, 2013 in Rio Rancho. He was born on June 2, 1936 to Manuel, Sr. and Eugenia Griego in Socorro, NM. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Manuel Griego, Jr., and his son, William Billy Griego. Willie is survived by his wife, Emily, of Rio Rancho, his daughter, Pamela Griego of Socorro, his sister, Terry Peralta and husband, Connie, of Socorro; his sister, Marian Ornelas and husband, Sid, of Albuquerque; and his brothers, Jimmy Griego of Socorro and Tony Griego, of Rio Rancho; 3 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren; stepchildren Kathy Gall and husband, Jeff, and Jim Allen and girlfriend, Adrea; and former wife, Linda Griego. Willie graduated from Socorro High School, where he played basketball and baseball. He is a veteran of the U.S. Navy, where he served aboard ship in the Pacific. Willie also served 20 years in the Army National Guard, retiring with the rank of Master Sergeant. He was a lector at San Miguel Parish; loved Spanish music; athletic, playing baseball up until his early 50s, and bowling; and was a sharp dresser. Willie was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. A Rosary will be held on Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at 10:00 am at the St. Thomas Aquinas Parish Catholic Church in Rio Rancho. A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10:30 am. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Vista Verde Memorial Park, Rio Rancho.
