Wilma Joyce Willie"" Goodwin

Wilma (Willie) Joyce Goodwin, 76, of Bloomfield died February 20, 2011 in Farmington. She battled COPD for many years and now she battles no more. She was the oldest child born to Rhoma and Beulah Cassity on February 28, 1934 in Exiter, Missouri. She has been a resident of Bloomfield since February 28, 1955. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Donnie Goodwin, brother, Gary Lee Cassity, and her sister Bobbie. She is survived by 4 children, Debbi (Glenn) Vavra, Vickie (Morris) Young, Mick (Debbie) Ahrens, and Robert Britton. She was blessed with 10 grandchildren, Matt (Dalea) Pennington, Michael (Jacqlyn) Pennington, Grant (Jessie) Pennington, Christopher (Tammie) Herrera, Julie (Donald) Ortiz, Kate (Kyle) Kerr, Jennifer (Jason) Moberly, Lashonda, Tyler, & Donnie Britton, and 17 great grandchildren. Willie was a beautician and ran Willie's beauty shop in Bloomfield for many years until her health prevented her from continuing. After that she opened Willie's flower basket where she loved making people happy with her flowers. Even after she retired from the business, she would create beautiful arrangements for family weddings and gatherings. She had a creative heart and was an accomplished oil and watercolor painter and loved quilting more than anything. With the impending arrival of each new great-grand child, she would be busy making beautiful blankets for each child to cherish. She was so excited to begin making more for the arrival of her twin great-grandsons due in April. As the matriarch of our family, she enjoyed cooking her amazing signature dishes and having everyone gathered around her at her home. She will be greatly missed by all who loved her. Her family wishes to express their love and appreciation to all who have contributed to Willie's care these last several years, especially Margaret Cassady, Glenda Pope, and the staff at SW Family Practice and also all the nurses and doctors at SJRMC who made her stay tolerable. Her viewing will be on Thursday, February 24, 2011 from 5:30 pm - 6:00 pm immediately followed by memorial services at 6:00 p.m. at Brewer, Lee, & Larkin Funeral Home: 103 East Ute Street, Farmington, New Mexico followed by cremation.
