Wilmoth Callaway Chambliss, 95, passed away on May 27, 2022. She was born in Naples, TX on September 2, 1926 to William Norris and Onie Wilmoth Callaway. She went on to receive her Bachelor of Music degree and Masters of Music Education from North Texas State University. Wilmoth spent 45 years teaching choral music to junior high students in Naples, Abilene and Lubbock, TX and Las Cruces, New Mexico. Her choirs performed for numerous groups including yearly concerts in the Rotunda of the New Mexico State Capitol in Santa Fe.
In 1954 she met and married her husband, Jack Chambliss, EdD, on August 14, 1954. After retirement in 1988, they resided in their beloved cabin in Cloudcroft, NM.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Jack Chambliss and her grandson, Christopher Hall Sever.
She is survived by her daughter, Eileen Chambliss Sever (Randy), and her son, Bill Chambliss (Linda). Additionally, she is survived by her grandchildren: Shawn Sever, Megan Sever Suarez (Phillip), Leah Chambliss Johnson (Michael), Kelly Chambliss Green (Mike), and Katelyn Chambliss Lovelis (Cody).
Finally, she is survived by her great grandchildren: Michaela Sever, Jordan Stott, Mackenzie and Madelyn Green, Dakota, Lucas and Natalie Lovelis, and Cooper, Camryn, Cohen and Crew Suarez.
She was a cherished mother, grandmother, and great grandmother to her family, as well as many friends. She had a heart of gold and a smile that could light up any room. She will be dearly missed by all.
A Celebration of Life will be held at High Desert United Methodist Church, Rio Rancho, NM on August 20, 2022 at 2:00PM.
