John J. Lerch

Lerch, John Joseph Sr. "JJ" Departed this world to be with Jesus on April 22, 2014. He is survived by his loving wife, Donna Lerch; children and their spouses, John and Jennifer Lerch, Robert Lerch, Matthew and Tara Anderson and Melissa and Mario Vargas. He was the proud grandfather of seven boys, Ian, Austin, Jacob, Alexander, Dylan, Nicholas and Garrett. He is also survived by siblings Dolores Schatterman, Sister Esther Lerch, and George Lerch. He also dearly loved his dogs and best friends, Bandit and Buster. John devoted himself to his family, church, friends, and neighbors, passionately pursuing both his work and his hobbies and lived his life in the fast lane. He exhibited his natural tendency toward service, proudly serving his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He then served his community as a law enforcement officer for more than 42 years, working with the Albuquerque Police Department, the Bernalillo County Sheriff's Department and the U.S. Marshals Service. John spent his retirement enjoying the company of his wife, grandsons, riding and selling motorcycles and assisting anyone who needed help. He will be greatly missed by his loving family and friends. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made in John's name to the charity of your choice. The Rosary will be recited at 8:00 am, following with the Mass at 8:30 am, Thursday, May 1, 2014 at Our Lady of Annunciation Parish Church, 2621 Vermont Street NE, Albuquerque, NM.
