Padilla, Leah
Age 82, passed away Friday, October 5, 2018 at her home in Socorro surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Mount Vernon, IL on July 9, 1936. She and her family moved to Socorro when she was a young girl and she attended the Socorro public schools. After she married Damian Jr., they owned and operated the Thunderbird Bar. Over her many years of public service, she worked for Socorro County Clerk's Office, the Eagle Pitcher, White Sands Stallion Site, the Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management and the Bureau of Reclamation before retiring. Leah was a cancer survivor and lived every day to the fullest. She loved to play poker, to read and to tend to her plants. She enjoyed dancing, playing pool and loved to fish. She also collected angels and was a devoted Dallas Cowboy fan. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Damian Padilla Jr.; her mother, Annette Stroker; and her son, Zarek Padilla. Leah is survived by daughters, Kim Padilla, Belinda Padilla and Nell Rose (Victor); her grandchildren, Cassandra Anaya (Bernice), Crystal Baptist (Steve), J.R., Danell Guinn (Matthew), Desiree Rosas (Bailey), and Dillon Padilla (Semone); great grandchildren, James Dewald, Nathan Dewald and Christopher Baptist; her sister, Louise Goldman. A Rosary will be recited on Thursday, October 11, 2018 at 8:30 am at the San Miguel Catholic Church, 403 El Camino Real, Socorro with the Mass of Resurrection immediately following at 9:00 am. Celebrant will be Father John Anasiudu. Burial will take place at the San Miguel Cemetery following the service.
